About The Artist

I was born in the Middle East in the early 90’s- brought into a culture filled with controversy, conflict, and war. Being raised in such a stress filled environment shaped me in ways that I am still discovering. As a scared, anxious and depressed teen, I moved to the United States with my parents and siblings, leaving my extended family behind. Being raised under the influence of one culture while learning another produced a deeply rooted identity crisis- one that I still struggle with today. As an artist, an immigrant, and an educator, I am a deeply empathetic and healing person with the skill to read the energy in a room and assess the needs of its inhabitants. Learning to teach art made me understand how vital of a role art can play in our lives and how creativity and creation fuels and inspires us to seek our truths and find meaningful connections with people, animals and the natural world.

After receiving classic training at Laguna College of Art and Design I attended San Jose State University and graduated with a BFA in studio art with an emphasis on instruction. I returned to school in 2019 to receive my Masters in Education and Clear Teaching Credential and I am currently employed as a high school art teacher. In 2022 I began to explore a career as a working artist and have been featured in galleries local to the Bay Area, International Publications, and Global Residencies.

The creation of art is a transformative experience that can act as an avenue of healing and a catalyst for growth. Being immersed in hustle culture just trying to make enough money to live has forced us into a drab existence. An isolated, single-focus lifestyle has caused us to become disconnected from our fellow man and our community. I see this in everyone we meet, people desperate for meaning outside of just survival.

I believe that art is the great uniter and can be the vessel for us to regain the severed connection to the creative energy we share with each other and the universe. A vital key to return meaning into our lives lies in healing through shared experiences. It is my goal as an artist and an educator to provide an avenue for people to find community, connection, and ultimately the sense of serenity and peace that escapes us in the struggle to survive.

My motivation to create art stems from my deeply self-reflective nature. I am driven by a desire to bring awareness and attention to cultural, political, or personal issues which others may share, but which can go unnoticed in the current zeitgeist. It speaks volumes of my personal concerns, and my feeling of kinship to the disenfranchised, oppressed, and exploited groups in society. I find inspiration through the spread of knowledge and awareness - more so than simply to make a grand artistic statement. I believe big changes come from the “ah ha” moments one has when hearing a song, seeing a play, or viewing art in public spaces. Through my art I try to create these moments in others as I continue to work on my own ability to be receptive to them.
