Mushrooms And Orgasms

War, conflict, and strife is a permanent fixture in society- no matter which culture or which time period we look at, we will always find war. I feel lucky to have some distance from this reality, but find that growing up in a place thats in constant conflict has fundamentally changed how I think about and perceive the world.

It took me a long time to understand that my expeditious nature is a result of my upbringing. Every act is rushed and every thought must happen quickly and efficiently with little space for consideration prior to acting, or for reflection after action. It’s a trait that can be advantageous, but more often leaves me feeling overwhelmed and longing for acts that force me to be present.

Slowing down in times of stress and conflict is a trait I learned as a coping mechanism for soothing my anxious, rapid mind. Sharing intimacy (and occasionally drugs) with others has been a calming and comforting outlet for me. Focusing my energy into a single meaningful task helps me to find my ground and regain internal balance.
