Self Portrait

There is a dilemma all working artists experience; do I create, or do I produce? This portrait is recreated in oil pastel, colored pencil, charcoal, and chalk. 4 pieces that are visually striking, expertly made, and dreadfully trite. Safe and easy to consume, pretty, and the epitome of production art.

After spending dozens of hours on each portrait I cut them up and glued them back together. Destroying something that took so much effort and literally cutting an interpretation of myself only to reconstruct, rebuild and reveal a new identity is the sort of risk that defines and differentiates art from production.
